Badger lives on the prairie today
Scouting for burrows on his way
Prairie dog hides from his keen eyes
Crow and coyote, have a BIG surprise
Badges round his eyes, gives him his name
Our prairie animals, to him are tame
Badger lives on the prairie today
Watch out for badger, on your way
Badgers have been sighted in at least 38 counties in Oklahoma. Badger Hill in McIntosh county and Badger Mountain in Sequoyah county - wonder where their name came from?

The last of the summer wine or is it whine?
Yes whining for true,
the last of the summer tomatoes
Salsa today - garlic & onion - yellow and red and chilies to boot!
Lots of chilies still kickin'
habeneros are prolific
jalepenos are slowing down
banana and thai are barely making it

You say tomato and I say tomatoe...
Tomatoes are finished, no more to pick
The heat is giving way to more peppers, though
Salsa's for the summer = red. yellow and green, to name a few
Cilantro and chives are still producing
Picked the last cabbage yesterday, along with the few chocolate habeneros on the vine
Spicy col'slaw = working on a recipe
Scoville units for habeneros is over 150,000
Go to NM Chili Institute for chili research - chilipepperinstitute.org

Salsa Garden
Chives, cilantro, peppers, chilies, tomatoes, cabbage, onions, garlic - they are coming along.
Shooting up daily- waiting for blooms. The peppers have started making, a variety for salsa;
habenero, jalepeno, poblano, tabasco, thai. As for the tomatoes - yellow & red are about 12 inches tall. July should bring a bounty of heat from the garden via salsa.

dreamtime - peaches and pears
Had a dream last nite, actually it was probably this morning. Fruit--
a beautiful red head with freckles and glowing skin looked so much different from all the others
the dream announcer said - know why he looks different? he eats fruit and veges grown in the garden, not all the processed food we eat every day.
so..spoon out those pears and peaches

Lina the messenger
DePrau's novel, City of Ember is a quick read. Much like "the Giver", two characters in a dystopia, Lina and Doon receive their life-time job assignments after finishing up school at age 12. Lina is a messenger and Doon a mechanic for the Pipeworks, the mechanical system that runs the city's generator. Lina's little sister finds a document and Lina takes it to a friend for help deciphering the instructions. Sharing it with Doon, the two discover a secret about the city of Ember. Along with the food shortages, constant blackouts and a corrupt mayor, Lina and Doon soon discover there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Listening to love songs today on the way home from work.It is Valentine's day.
As I switched the channel to our country station, KVOO; I heard the announcer say
"that song wus so purdey, it could bring tear to a glass eye"
Folks, this is one for the books, I had never heard that expression before

Onions 'n cilantro
What a great day, planted some onion sets today -red yellow and white. My cilantro is coming up in the kitchen window, the seeds from last year worked! On the lookout for pepper plants soon, gotta find some habeneros. Looking at the seed catalog, quite a variety of wild flowers. Planted two rose bushes yesterdays from mom's yard, along with some Iris she had. One rose bush is over 50 years, it was Aunt Ruby's - then mom's and now ours. Wonder who will take it when I'm gone?
