Tulsa green scape gone ! aka LIMB city

Brush piles and tree bundles everywhere
on the sides of streets and in the parks
Birds roosting, hiding and hovering in brush piles on the lawns
bird count this month - go to the curb to make your count
the birds wont be in the trees,
the trees are gone
piled up at 71st street by the river
or still stacked in your yards
Cronley's "Limb city" notes
chain saws are buzzing everywhere this weekend

Four layers of clothes and a runny nose!
Trees are destroyed, our greenscape is severely damaged
Folks still without power, even at this late hour

hummers, butterflies and woodpeckers - OH MY

Saw the first of the Monarchs fly in this week in Tulsa! The hummingbirds have multiplied by many, early in the AM they are buzzing by the feeders in a frenzy. After their burst of color the downy woodpeckers swoop in to take some nectar from the feeder, as well. Quite a "zen bird" experience the mornings bring. There were two Monarchs in the garden today looking for food on their journey south.

Ft Gibson OK, Bread Baking Day

Historic Site in OK

Fort Gibson was made the headquarters of the Seventh Infantry in 1831. Cavalry troops were added to the garrison with the arrival of the Mounted Rangers in 1832. In its new role the post, renamed Fort Gibson in 1832, served as a staging area for several military expeditions sent to explore the western region to seek peace between the Plains Indians and the resettled tribes. The Rangers were replaced by the Regiment of Dragoons in 1833, and in 1834 Fort Gibson was designated Headquarters of the Southwestern Frontier.
